Answers from Dr. Kaiser Question: I have had a great deal of trouble in recent months when addingL-Carnitine to my mix of supplements and vitamins. It seems to cause a bad (chemical) body odor and really smelly urine. When I quit taking just the L-Carnitine, the problem vanishes almost instantly. I've been taking 500 mg twice a day. the The form of carnitine that I recommend is Acetyl L-Carnitine. After careful research, I have come to the conclusion that this form is more beneficial and able to be used by the cells of the body. I am not aware of Acetyl L-Carnitine producing a bad body odor but it can produce a smell to the urine that is similar to that produced after one consumes asparagus (a kind of a sulfur-like odor). This is nothing to be concerned about and is should be expected. Thank you for your question. |
