Ask Dr. Kaiser Question: My wife has Neuropathy. It seems she had nerve damage as a consequence of cortisone shots into the spine. This was for relief of back/hip pain. My question is: Will ALA, or MSM help in alieviating the pain associated with neuropathy? She is currently taking neurontin @ 600 mg 3 times per day. Dr. Kaiser replies: Nerve damage as a result of cortisone shots that were supposed to help alleviate your wifes back pain sounds pretty serious. There are definitely nutrients that could help support your wifes nervous system so that it became stronger and experience less pain. These nutrients could also help support the weak nerve cells and help them to heal and gain strength. The most important nutrients for nerve cell growth and regeneration are: vitamins B6, B12, calcium, magnesium, alpha-lipoic acid and acetyl L-carnitine. The dosages needed are the dosages that are listed in my new Immune Support ProgramTM If your wife weighs less than 120 pounds she should consider the Single-strength formula 2-3x/day, and if she weighs more than 120 pounds she should consider the Double-strength formula 2x/day. Gentle massage, yoga, mineral salt baths, and acupuncture are all other modalities that might help. Remember, the nervous system takes the longest of any system to heal so give it about 2-3 months before coming to any conclusion regarding the programs benefits. Good luck!!
