Question:

I have recently in the past year an a half tested positive for HIV
and have always had a low viral load, (5,000 was the highest), and hi T Cell count, usually around 900 to 950. My last tests resulted in a viral load of 135,000 and t cells of 484. What would cause such a great jump in my counts and what should I do? I am willing to come and see you in San Francisco. I currently live in New York City and would also like to know if you know of any good alternative doctors in the city that see HIV positive patients and have had good success.

Dr. Kaiser replies:

You have begun to experience what I call a "loss of viral containment". There are quire a number of things that can cause this situation. They range from the presence of intestinal parasites, to a recent increase in psychological stress, to an inadequate or imbalanced intake of micronutrients.

Fortunately, your CD4 count is still substantially high. By putting together a comprehensive healing program, and potentially reversing the factors that are responsible for this "loss of containment", your viral load can come down and your CD4 count can stabilize as well as potentially increase.

I'd be happy to work with you as a new patient or you can access my services with a phone consultation. Feel free to give my office a call.
