Answers from Dr. Kaiser Question: I am the widower father of two boys, 16 and 17. I was recently diagnosed positive thanks to the warning of an exlover. My v.l. is 5,000 and my Cd count is 470. I converted a year ago. My doctor says I don't need medication yet. I feel no symptoms yet, other than the anxiety of knowing what I have, and my desire to see my kids at least finish high school. What can I do to prolong my current health and to slow down the progress of my condition?Dr. Kaiser replies: First let me say that I agree with your doctor's decision to postpone placing you on antiviral medication. A viral load of 5,000 copies is very low for someone not on any antiviral medication and it is something your body should be able to handle on its own for quite a long period of time if well-supported. By well-supported I mean that you must eat a healthy diet, get plenty of exercise and rest, take a substantial vitamin supplement program, make sure you have adequate levels of the hormones testosterone and DHEA in your body, and manage your stress well. All the details of this program can be found in my recent book. Let's just say that, not only do I have a great deal of confidence that you will see your sons graduate from high school, I believe that you have the potential to live a normal and healthy lifespan. |
