Answers from Dr. Kaiser Question: I recently tested HIV-positive less than six months ago. I have become very depressed since that news and have noticed that I am losing weight for reasons unknown to me. I was fine until I found out that I was HIV. Dr. Kaiser replies: You CAN live a normal and healthy life Max! Just try to relax. Your numbers are great, especially if you have never taken antiviral drugs. You need to eat healthy, take vitamins every day (2X/day if you can), GET TESTED FOR INTESTINAL PARASITES!, exercise regularly, pray often, laugh as much as possible, and take good care of your body. In other words, keep your act as clean as possible! Make sure to do ALL of the things I mention above. It is very possible that the anxiety you have developed since learning about your diagnosis has caused a decrease in food consumption. You could also see a registered dietitian for advice. The power is in your hands! Good luck, Dr. Kaiser |
