Your immune system is the most sensitive system of your body. If it is subjected to excessive stress over a long period of time, it can begin to function erratically. Sometimes, it can even begin to attack your own body. Conditions associated with an autoimmune response include:
The occurence of these conditions can be thought of as a last ditch effort by your body to get your attention. If corrective interventions are not undertaken, the imbalances remain and the condition must then be managed by immune-suppressants (prednisone, methotrexate, etc.). The goal is to gradually diminish the use of potentially harmful medications over time. Eventually, the individual can be returned to good health and most or all medications can be stopped. Healing can occur if the original imbalances and unhealthy lifestyle are corrected. Relapses are possible if these are revisited. Remember, the symptoms you develop are your body's only way to communicate with you that it has become unhealthy and out of balance. Heed its messages. |
